Over the past years, movement towards organizational sustainability has been combined with concept of innovation. Therefore, current research has been carried out with the aim of developing a model for creating organizational sustainability through open innovation in the Iranian petrochemical industry. This research has been done using Grounded Theory. In order to identify aspects of organizational sustainability through open innovation, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 managers and experts of petrochemical industry using a purposive sampling method. Analysis led to extraction of 25 concepts in the form of 6 categories of causal conditions (environmental uncertainty, upstream documents and laws, pressure from local communities, technology development, legal challenges), context (availability of infrastructure, organization strategies, organizational culture, general environment of the organization), intervening (organizational factors, factors related to employees and environmental factors) and the sustainable organization model is formed through open innovation with strategy (economic strategies), organizational strategies, extra-organizational strategies.
